Hello out there- if anyone is actually still reading this. Considering I have stunk BIG TIME at updating this thing:((( I guess the good news is that it means I've been busy. My husband's rule of thumb for a restaurant is that he won't eat there unless it's busy- because if no one is there it means the food stinks. So, I guess it's a good thing I'm insanely busy right, it means your pictures rock:)?!? Nonetheless, it is my MISSION in 2012 to be better about sharing my work:) In the next few weeks, I'm revamping my website, getting an all new blog, and taking my FB page by storm:)) So get ready:)) And thank you for being so loyal to my non-existent blog:))) Happy New Year:))) Now...off to shoot a wedding:)

October is FULL!

You have no idea how happy and sad (all at the same time) it makes me to tell you that October is officially FULL! I am ecstatic about the amazing sessions we have scheduled and can't wait to have such an absolute blast (while making some kickin' Christmas cards along the way!)

However- I am so sad if I have missed any of you who were hoping to get some fall pictures:( I have been so blessed and began filling fall sessions in July!!!

I encourage you if you are still interested in a session to check my availability for November. I can definitely shoot into November and still have your images available in plenty of time for Christmas!

And seeing how quickly fall filled up- I would be happy to start scheduling spring sessions to accommodate you! Also look for super fun winter sessions that I'll be hosting (snow mini-sessions, anyone!)

Behind Every Bride bridal show!

This past August 28, I decided to try out my first bridal show. It took months of preparation- trying to figure out how I'd do my booth. I haven't been that nervous about something in a very long time!!! I was so happy with how it all turned out:) A huge thanks goes out to my BFF's who came to be my support network and help me sign up brides:)) And another huge thanks to my super talented friend who sewed my backdrop and table runner:))) And finally- a huge, huge thanks to my editor and best friend in business. I absolutely could not do it without her:))) I had so much fun showing off all of the gorgeous brides that I've shot:)) It proved to be successful and I can't wait for the next one:))

Such a cutie. Erin was absolutely a dollface during this session:) When she first messaged me, she asked that we go somewhere different for her pics. She definitely didn't want them to look like all the other seniors from her high school. That is music to my ears:) I took a risk and asked Erin if she'd be willing to meet me in this shady little town. She agreed- and I was sooo excited:) She brought along her posse of her parents, best friend, and boyfriend:) We had so much fun laughing, and then laughing some more:) Check out her face when I asked her dad to kiss her cheek:) Priceless:)) She was a total rockstar and I loved shooting her pics:)) Thank you Erin so much! Becca and Daniel: Married, Champaign, IL

Adorableness. That pretty much sums up Becca. She is sooo cute, and her personality (if possible) is even cuter! I honestly don't think the girl could get any sweeter:) Daniel is a lucky, lucky guy:) And Becca's pretty lucky too- although Daniel is an Agger:) I had so much fun getting to shoot some of their wedding shots at the old stompin' grounds of mine at the University of Illinois:) We shot quite a few pictures at the Agger fraternity house- and then onto the Alma Mater:) Our final shooting location was the South Farms:) I spent many an hour out there during college- not working myself, but driving by to get a glimpse of my future husband researching in those fields:))) So I was giddy with memories and I think the shots reflected that:)))

I am so happy for this couple and know they will live a long, happy life:) Daniel is a hoot and Becca will always be laughing:) Congratulations guys! And thank you for letting me be a part of your big day:)

Anderson Wedding: Champaign, IL

Finally, I'm getting around to blogging some of my weddings from this super crazy summer! I have been so incredibly blessed to have shot a wedding pretty much every weekend from May 21 on:) It's been so, so incredible! Besides the obvious (the photography and the money)- I've gained so much else from shooting so many weddings. I thought I'd share some...

1- My taste in music has quickly gone down the tubes since having kids. I used to be 'cool'- and now I'm just 'bippity boppity boo'. So- my time spent at receptions has finally rebounded my music repertoire- and I'm now back in the swing of it. 'Jump on It'? Know it. Black Eyed Peas- every one. I now officially feel cool again:)

2- Dresses. Do you know how many adorable dresses/shoes I see every single weekend? It's like a walking fashion show! I get to see all styles of dresses on all different ages/sizes of women. I can see firsthand what works and what doesn't! I see accessories, shoes, the works. It's so, so fun! And if I fall in love with something- I simply go up and ask:) My personal wardrobe thanks you:)

3- The message. Marriage is hard- everyone knows it, no one denies it. It's so incredibly beneficial to hear the message of marriage every single weekend. I always come home and hug my husband a little tighter each time.

4- Everyone has a crazy uncle. Seriously. Everyone.

So now on to this beautiful couple:)

Andrea and Collin and I met quite awhile ago at a Starbucks in Champaign:) One funny memory we have is that they were out to dinner one night with a group of friends and were discussing their wedding plans. One friend of a friend that was joining them for supper asked about their photographer. They shared they already had one. This friend apparently got kinda fiesty and exclaimed that her cousin was the best wedding photographer she knew and they should fire theirs and hire her. They said they liked theirs. Eventually- they figured out that they were talking about the same person:)) My cousin Abby was their dinner guest- and props to her for totally fighting for me:))) It was kinda funny:)))

This day was absolutely gorgeous- despite a small hiccup with rain:) Nonetheless, we had a blast! The toasts were priceless and the dancing hysterical! The groom's dad's band performed at the reception! It was my first live band- and they were AWESOME:) The lead singer looked just like Mick Jagger to me and I totally pretended like I was at a real concert:) So fun:)

Megan and Aaron: Married:) Fort Wayne, IN

Cry, cry, cry.

Bawl, bawl, bawl.

That's what I did during this wedding. When the veil went on. When the dress went on. When the groom saw her for the first time walking down the aisle. When they said their vows. When the groomsmen rapped the speech. When they played that stinkin' song for the Father/Daughter Dance that makes me bawl every.single.time. Lots of crying went on here:)

I cry at every wedding I shoot, I can't help it. I don't eat the cake, but I cry. But this was the first time I had shot the wedding of someone so close to me. Here's our story:)

Meg (the bride) and I first met when she was a sophomore in high school. I had just taken over the Varsity Cheerleading coach job and Megan was one of my Varsity cheerleaders. What developed was a relationship that went even beyond coach/athlete. Meg became like a little sister to me. She would come to my house to do her homework. I taught her how to use online library searches. She taught me how to make marshmallow cream dip for strawberries. I taught her about boys. She taught me how to use velcro rollers in my hair. Every year, I did her hair for prom. I went through a few breakups with her. I moved away from Indiana and to Illinois 1 month before Meg's graduation. I drove the 5 hours back to attend it though- and shared pizza with her family after. For graduation, I gave her a card that had on one side 'what I have taught Meg'..and on the other 'what Meg has taught me'. ((The concept stuck:) The maid of honor speech was actually partially reading a card that Meg had written her Maid of Honor that did the exact same thing:)))

I actually called Meg at college the morning after she met Aaron. She gushed and gushed to me about this guy- and I thought Mr. Wonderful sounded too good to be true. Turns out, he wasn't. I couldn't have picked a more lovable, social, down to earth guy than Aaron. He is an excellent man, and adorable to boot- and I am so, so happy for them:)

I pray you two have a wonderful, laugh-filled life:) (even if it's at my expense sometimes!)

I am so embarrassed to admit I haven't blogged since June. I guess the good news is that I haven't blogged because I've been crazy busy with shoots, wedding, editing, bridal shows, etc. As this business grows, my time depletes:( I hate ignoring the blog- but I always find myself (when I sit down to work)- wanting to edit and get my pics out to clients as opposed to blogging! These little guys were visiting their grandma from out of state! Grandma had told me that their last session had been at a place in the mall, and the session had ended with everyone (including Grandma and Grandpa) in tears! We decided to meet at some trains since we thought the boys might love that! Kristen and Gerald: Engagement Session, Central Illinois

oh.my.photographer.love. This couple (bless their hearts) agreed to my request to have a super-long engagement session marathon. I wanted to shoot some locations, and fulfill my 'photographer fantasy' of shooting at a carnival. It's the one thing I've always wanted to shoot and never had. And they agreed:) We started on campus at the University of Illinois (where they met). Kristen was an Illinette there- and she was amazing:) After campus- we headed to this small little wine grove in our hometown (Kristen and I both grew up in Monticello...her older brother is actually my age and was one of my closest friends!) Then, the fun began! We drove to Decatur to go to the McLean County Fair- only to find that the internet had the dates wrong and it started the NEXT day. So- panic insued- but somehow, I came across on my google search (thank you God and Apple for IPhones) that there was some random little town fair going on about 15 minutes from Decatur. They were game- so we drove to the carnival:) It was closing down (aka they were taking apart the rides)- but we ran in anyway! After some asking around- they agreed to let us take some pictures:) You should have seen me...seriously. I was like a kid in a candy store. Running from one ride to the next, jumping up and down, freaking out. Yep...that was me. We played with the games, rode the rides (well, they weren't moving...but you know what I mean). I really wanted some carnival food pics- so we went up to one of the places. I spent $5 to buy an EMPTY lemonade cup with two straws because the guy wouldn't make us one! I asked to buy a funnel cake too- but they wouldn't make that either. But they would dig one out of the trash for us. They told us it had been the 'display' all week- and it was seriously hard as a rock. It was so repulsively disgusting- which made the pictures even funnier when I had Kristen try to feed it to Gerald:)

Such a story, such fun, some of my favorite pictures ever:) I can't wait for their October wedding:)))

They are getting married in the same church my hubby and I did over 8 years ago:) It's a super small, quaint Catholic church nestled in the middle of cornfields in the middle of nowhere. 4 Generations of Incredible Women: Monticello, IL

I'm sure if you read this blog, you recognize this little girl:) I've taken her pictures a couple of times! But this time was special- we shot four generation pictures of this beautiful family! It's really a small world, you know! The mom of the little girl happens to be one of my friends from Washington. We met in our Mom's Group (yeah...we're cool like that). We somehow realized that her mom had grown up in a small town about 2 minutes from my hometown (which is an hour and a half away from Washington). Her grandma still lives there:) So- we shot these pictures in my hometown- with my friend from Washington. So fun:) I just lost my grandma about a year ago- so I know how precious pictures are:) I'm so happy we got such beautiful pictures for all of these amazing ladies:))) Love you guys! Kara

I was thrilled when I got the phone call from a mom of a good friend of mine from high school:) She was wanting some pictures of her grandson- the super cute son of my friend, Tom:) Tom and I went to school together since elementary school- and even were crowned Homecoming King and Queen together (I WISH I had that picture to upload...it's a riot). Tom is the funniest, sweetest, most genuine guy ever!!! We almost got kicked out of Homecoming the following year when we tried to dress as Darth Vader and Princess Leah to come back and give away the crowns. In all fairness- the theme was Star Wars and we were just trying to be spirited....but no one saw it that way:( So...needless to say- lots of memories- and I couldn't wait to take pictures of him and his son:) Since the little guy loves trains- we met at the old trains out in Monticello:) It was RAINING (you can even see the rain in a few of the pics)- but he was a trooper and we ended up having a great time:) Thank you guys for coming out:) It was great to see you again:)

Ah...I love this couple. I loved them the minute we started chatting at Ruby Tuesday's during our consultation. I told them to go home and think about it- and instead they wrote me the down payment:) I think we all knew we'd be friends:) Their engagement pictures in Chicago were so much fun! I got to really get a glimpse of their personalities- and I quickly understood that I really loved this couple. Needless to say, I couldn't WAIT for their wedding:) It was such an incredibly fun day:) I loved them, loved their families, loved their crazy bridal party:) I always tell brides and grooms that by the end of the day- I'll be facebook friends with their bridal party and I don't think they believe me:) Well- as you can see in one of these pics- these boys insisted on putting me in one of the photos! They were nuts and I loved every.single.minute of it:) The chalkboard sign was a new thing I tried:) I asked them one at a time to write what they loved the most about each other (without letting the other one see it). My best friend from college gave birth to her fourth child a few weeks ago- and after three girls- little Jack made his appearance in this world:) Emily (my friend) and I met in our sorority in college. We were both education majors, both loved music and the Illini marching band, and frankly- she makes me laugh endlessly every single time we're together. Our finest moment was meeting Jerry Springer about 10 minutes before the longest, scariest, and most death-defying plane ride we've ever taken. Needless to say- everyone on the plane was puking...Emily was not talking (soooo not her)....and I was singing 'Precious Lord take my hand' out loud because I thought for sure we were goners. Oh...the memories:)

But back to the baby:) Little Jack is the newest member of their beautiful little farm family:) Emily is a bit of a celebrity among my own friends- she writes a fabulous blog called 'Confessions of a Farm Wife'- and she's been featured on many different places:) It's her absolute wit that makes her writing so entertaining:) And just look at her. WHO looks this good 8 days after having a baby. You KNOW she's gotta be nice- because I normally don't like girls who look this good after birth (or anytime frankly)- but she's so wonderful, I have to put her gorgeousness aside and get over myself:))) FOUR KIDS...8 DAYS AFTER BIRTH...and she's radiant. Urgh. I have such pretty friends:)

I love, love, love this family. The oldest boy, G, is my little guy's best friend:) We talk about G constantly at our house. They were ready for engagement pictures now- so we met up in Peoria to shoot their session. I know I say this about everyone, but they truly are the SWEETEST couple. They are high school sweethearts, soon to be college sweethearts, and simply can't wait to be married:) They are so bubbly, genuine, and adorable:) I can't wait for their big day! What a super fun session this was:) D, the momma of this crew, e-mailed me a long while back to ask about shooting some family portraits and an event for her family! This amazing wife was throwing a surprise birthday party for her hubby- complete with bringing all of this family home! The kids live in West Virginia, Massachusetts, and Tennessee, and the hubby's sister lives in Colorado! When I showed up- Mr. M thought that his present was the family and the photo shoot (not to mention the new HARLEY his wife had got him as well!!!) I know, I know...geesh...blog something already! I really have been working!!! I have:) I just have been spending a lot of time shooting some personal sessions (births of friends, family pictures, etc.) that don't necessarily get blogged! I've also been super busy creating some fun new marketing tools, getting myself ready for wedding season, doing some trainings, and so on:) So- yes, I'm absolutely still in business:) And I am SO excited that this weather MAY get nice enough soon to start shooting outdoors in some amazing locations again! But alas- it's still nasty! So keep your eyes peeled! Wedding season starts in 2 weeks...and we've got one every weekend from now til November!! Baby A- 6 months old!

This little guy is just so, so sweet:) I first met baby A in January when I shot some large family shots for them! He is now 6 months old- and we decided to try some outdoor photos! It wasn't as warm as he would have liked- but he did soooo good:) He is just so sweet:) As usual- the saving prop of the day was 'Sophie the Giraffe'. I have been looking forward to this wedding since Joe, the groom, first stopped me at a wedding last summer I was shooting and told me to keep my eye out for his e-mail because he would be popping the question soon! That was the first night I met Kasey and I knew they would be perfect:) Our engagement session was an absolute blast- and I just knew the wedding would be so, so much fun! And it was:) This couple had the perfect wedding:) Beautiful ceremony, wonderful guests, a rockin' reception- the whole shabang. It was gorgeous:) The Catholic Church they were married in was one of the prettiest Catholic churches I've been in! Kasey was so relaxed and just blissful- and it made it so enjoyable to just hang out with her all day:) Joe was totally Joe:) I first met Joe when I was a pool manager at our hometown pool and Joe was one of my lifeguards! Announcing Mommy and Me Mini-Sessions!

I just spent a day at the Hearts at Home conference (a much-needed uplifting conference for mommas). All of those inspirational messages about the importance of motherhood started my brain thinking:) I have always wanted to do a mini-session day in honor of moms, grandmas, and so on! And this conference convinced me it needed to be done!

Meet this adorable couple:) I am thrilled to be working with these guys:) I first met Thomas and Natalie at a consultation at Panera Bread. I noticed immediately how adorable Natalie was:) I was pleasantly surprised to hear that Natalie worked at a bridal store- and she wanted me to shoot her wedding:)))) When I asked her why- she mentioned that these two were very muchso 'hometown' kind of people, and they got that feel from me. Which I SO AM:) I love small towns, I love people in love, and yes- this is a VERY good fit:)) I can't wait for their big day:))

The thing I loved about this engagement session is that our locations were all so personal to the couple. The first place we shot was the bride-to-be's grandpa's lake! The second- the groom-to-be's backyard woods:) The last place I picked because Delavan has the cutest downtown ever:)))) I was obsessed with this wall and purple door:) And seriously- could Natalie have dressed ANY cuter? I love, love, love the snow pictures and her cute coats and hats:)))

Anna and Kasey: Engagement

Another gorgeous couple who I can't believe I actually get PAID to shoot their wedding:))) I am the luckiest photographer EVER to have such gor-geous couples booking me:) Seriously- I should do a blog post of nothing but head shots of the amazingly gorgeous brides this year:)))

This couple is every bit as fun as they are cute:)) We had such an awesome time and I can't wait for their big day! We actually cancelled their session that morning that was planned for Bloomington due to rain. I was on my way to Champaign and noted that the skies were clearer there- so I called Anna and asked if we could switch to Lake of the Woods in Mahomet. She was game- and there we were:) And I'm so glad we did- we had such an amazing day there:))

I can't wait for the big day for these two:))) It is undoubtedly going to be full of tears, laughs, and some amazingly gorgeous pictures:)))

Joe and Kasey: Engagement, Monticello, IL

This adorable couple is tying the knot in February and I absolutely can't wait for their wedding:) I have been friends with Joe for quite some time! When I was in college, I was the assistant manager at the community pool in our hometown. Joe, who was in high school at the time, was one of my lifeguards. He is, and always has been, a down home farm boy with a knack for fun:) I credit him (and his buddies) with my first recognizing that I loved farm boys and one day wanted to marry one:) 4 years of college, a few Farmhouse fraternity functions, and one cute Californian later- I found my farm boy:)

We shot our sessions out at Joe's farm, then headed to the University of Illinois campus where these two met:) I absolutely love shooting engagement shoots on farms with tractors and cows and all things country:)

It would be virtually impossible for me to update my blog with every single session I shot between the months of October and December. I am incredibly blessed that it was such a busy and fun-filled few months! We got some incredible shots in there too:) I'm going to do my best to show as many as I can:)

This session is of an adorable little one-year-old who I've been shooting since she was a newborn:) I first met her mom when she was pregnant and came to my garage sale! For those of you who know my photography 'story', you know the significance of the garage sale:) I wanted to buy a DSLR camera- but on our one-income budget- it wasn't in the cards. My husband told me if I earned the money myself- I could. So I planned a garage sale:) And I printed some information on business cards that I'd like to take some pictures:) Well- that garage sale produced (through divine intervention, I'm convinced) enough money to buy my camera, a lens, a computer, and some software. And my business was born. This mom called not long after about a newborn session, and I shot that, their 6 month session, and now her newborn session! So my business has been growing up right along with this little one:) She's precious and I adore her:) Mom would have to sing Carrie Underwood and she'd start dancing:))) Love her:)

From what I gathered listening to the speeches and the guests- this wedding was a long time coming:) Apparently- it was worth the wait because these two were the calmest bride and groom I've ever shot:)- but also the happiest:) They were so ready to be married and it showed:) They were surrounded by so many friends and family as they said their vows, ehr...Ginger said their vows:) When the pastor asked Brian to repeat after him, GINGER piped up very loudly and excitedly 'I Brian, take you Ginger'. It was so.unbelievably.adorable. She was just so excited she said it for him:) It took awhile for the laughter to simmer- but when it did, this beautiful couple was united in marriage:) Which was quickly followed by a rockin' good time:)) I have to give this couple (and their bridal party) props as well because they let us go outside and it was FREEZING. I mean FREEZING. My finger could barely push the shutter. But they rocked it:) I had so much fun shooting this wedding as it was the first Monticelloian marrying a Monticelloian- so I knew 90% of the guests:) That always makes it fun for me:) These two are going to share a lot of laughs in their future, and they will be nothing but fun! Little Baby M was born in the middle of December- just in time for his first Christmas:) He was such an adorable little guy- and big brother M was about as sweet as they come! What a fantastic big brother:)) This session was one of my winners from the session I donated for Dax Day held here in Washington several months ago in honor of Dax Locke, the local boy who lost his battle with cancer. I think it's very fitting that when God gets an angel, He delivers one as well. Julie K Music Photo Shoot

If you have a child under the age of 10 and have never listened to Julie K- you are TOTALLY missing out. Her debut album, 'Sunny Day', has earned countless parenting/family awards and is an absolute favorite around our house. Last year, for my daughter's 5th birthday party- she didn't want princesses or ponies or even a jumping house- she wanted Julie K. So we had a 'Julie K' birthday party:)

Oh my my....this girl rocks. I loved, loved, loved this session- if not for the awesome pictures- but for the fun I had with M and her mom:) Honestly- it was like we had been friends forever:) We laughed (a lot!) and just had so much fun together:) M wanted to take her senior pics out at her farm (and those of you who know me or at least follow this blog understand my LOVE of everything country!)- so I was psyched:) She rocked some boots- then came out in a flashy dress and her new Homecoming Queen crown:) Nothing like heels and a crown and a gorgeous dress and your pics in front of a grain bin. This past Saturday I shot my final wedding of 2010:) I had the honor of being a part of a gorgeous couple's life beginning together:) I first met Corrie through my mom:) She and my mom are teachers together- and my mom simply adores her as her own daughter! I was thrilled to meet Corrie and her beau, Matt:) The wedding festivities began with a gorgeous rehearsal dinner in a barn outside Monticello. While the ambiance was spectacular and the food delicious- the highlight of the evening was the guitar serenade from the groom with a song he had written. I'm not sure there was a dry eye in the house:) The wedding day itself was filled with friends and family- and every detail was intertwined with details involving their loved ones! The officiants? Long time friends of the bride and groom. The bridesmaids- most were friends since 3rd grade. The ring bearer? The couple's dog:) The first dance? Sung by a bridesmaid and accompanied by the bride's brother. The desserts? All made by the brides' aunt. And so on and so on:) I trust this couple will be showered with love, support, and encouragement the rest of their married life. Meet this adorable little girl, L. This session hit close to my heart:))) L's beautiful mommy (isn't she gorgeous!!!!) was my BEST friend when I was little growing up in Monticello. Her dad happens to be a family physician- and anytime I'd have to go to the hospital when I was little (don't ask)- I was met in the ER with cards, bubble gum wrapper chain necklaces, and so on. Jeannine has always been such an absolute doll with nothing but the concern of others at the forefront of her mind:) After high school, my ambitious and talented friend left for the East Coast and was highly succesful in her business (and love! her hubby is adorable too!) adventures:) We hadn't seen each other since graduation- so I was THRILLED when she Facebooked me one day to tell me she'd be home visiting and wanted me to shoot her little one. I can't tell you how special it is to me to be able to be a part of my childhood friends' lives. Meet the gorgeous newlyweds Zeke and Sara. Their wedding was one of the most beautiful, genuine weddings I've ever attended:) I loved every.single.detail. The wedding took place at Sara's grandfather's farm- complete with a grapevine arbor, chickens, haybales, and mums. It felt like the perfect fall country wedding- down to every detail:) Sara has an admitted obsession with animals and birds- and it was laced throughout her entire wedding day! Kyle and Carissa and I first met at the wedding of a friend of theirs that I happened to be shooting. Immediately I liked them- and I knew their wedding would be filled with fun moments. Although at first he doesn't say much (until much later on in the reception...hehe!)- you can tell immediately that Kyle is the type of man that any girl would want for her husband. He's so loving to Carissa, careful with her, kind to her...you can catch him admiring her from far away sort of thing. It's adorable:) And Carissa is absolutely so deserving:) She is just the sweetest, most happy girl you could meet:) These two are definitely going to live a long and happy, God-filled life together:)

I was so excited for this day after our consultation I could hardly stand it:) When they told me their getaway car was an actual firetruck- and that we would be shooting their pictures at a cabin tucked away in the farm fields- I was giddy:) Pair that with some awesome red bridesmaids dresses and a super fun bridal party to boot- and we had ourselves a good ole' time:) Granted- I should have planned better for the getaway! I guess I figured the fire truck would pull away- I just didn't plan ahead to how I would be following it to photograph it! After my assistant and I running about 300 yards down some country road- a nice groomsman allowed up to hop in the bed of his truck and follow the fire truck:) We were literally standing in the bed of his truck leaning on the cab with our cameras. I have never felt so much like the paparazzi:) It was quite a rush, I must admit:)

The ceremony was moving, the reception was beautiful, and the bride and groom were so grateful:) All in all- a completely blissful day:) Thank you Kyle and Carissa for being so awesome:) I loved being a part of your day:)))

This little sneak peek is just a glimpse of the beautiful family that I had the honor of shooting last week:) I have known these three sisters (the three mommas of each beautiful family) for as long as I can remember. The middle sister was a senior when I was a freshman in high school and was without a doubt- my IDOL:) She was amazing at sports, super smart, super pretty, and super nice to boot. I wanted to be her:) And now look at her adorable, adorable family! The youngest sis and I were only a year apart in school (as well as her hubby!)- and she has always been seriously the nicest person you will ever meet (and her laugh is absolutely addicting- still to this day!) I love, love, love that I am able to get to know the families of the 'kids' that I grew up with- it's the absolute best part of going back home and shooting. Champaign and Monticello sessions!

As the fall approaches- I am excited about the sessions I have in store:) Everyone loves fall pictures with the fun sweaters, gorgeous leaves, and family Christmas card portraits:) YEAHH!!!!

However- fall also means school...and dance class....and music class...and....yep, craziness.

Now that my daughter has started kindergarten- I no longer have the freedom to just shoot back to Champaign and Monticello on a whim for a random Wednesday night session. But, I love my clients here WAY TOO MUCH to ever say no:) So- I'm trying to be pro-active and schedule some dates set aside for only shooting here! I can fill those days up, up, up:) If you'd like a session in the fall in Champaign or Monticello- let's get it scheduled:))))

Vacation:) Much needed rest and reflection!

I have been in California now for almost 7 days and though we will be on our way home soon- I can't help but reflect on how wonderful this week has been:) Wonderful of course in that it's California- where not only is the weather gorgeous, but we've gotten a chance to be with our family who we see so rarely due to the distance! Just Wednesday, my husband and I left our kiddos with grandma and started our car trip adventure down the Pacific Coast Highway! It has been the most romantic, wonderful time together after 7 years of marriage- and totally refreshing to us as a couple, and therefore, as a family!

In the photography world, though, I've also learned a few things about myself during this trip- all things that in my mind, make me a better photographer. See- I always knew I've loved taking pictures...of people. I never, ever was the 'landscape picture' type of girl. Frankly, pictures of flowers and bugs and even beaches fail to excite me as much as the giddy bride or the dirty 2 year old in the mud. At least, that's how I used to be. On this vacation, with the exception of my husband or I getting in the picture- I found myself surrounded by strangers, none of which wanted me pointing a camera in their face. However, I was itching to shoot- so I did just that. Suddenly my subjects changed from 2 year olds to sea kelp, from blissful wedding couples to towering mountain cliffs. I suddenly found myself making my husband pull over every 30 minutes so I could 'take a picture'. I realized something about myself this trip. Sometimes I will ask myself if I'm kidding myself with this 'whole photography thing'. I think it's hard for one to pick up a new 'career' after having studied and gotten a degree in another and just 'accept' that this is your passion and destiny. But this trip has taught me something (well, a lot of somethings). I yearn to take pictures- no matter what the subject. And looking at things through the eyes of my camera has taken everything I see and beautified it tenfold. I am reading a book about an artist during my stay here- and one of the quotes was that 'Artists often fall in love with their subjects'. That explains to me why I fell in love with photography by shooting my own kids. I already loved them. And now- this 'career' has taken me to falling in love with weird looking sea kelp, or the waves crashing on the rocks, or trees with sunlight streaming through them. Appreciate them- I always have. Loved them- only now. And that, my friends, is just another step for me on this journey as an artist. And I am giddy with joy about it:) So...bring it on central Illinois snow and ice...I'm ready to love you (through the lens, of course).

Hillary and Colby: Wedding: Monticello, IL

This post is SOO overdue- I apologize over and over:) I uploaded some to our Facebook pages- but I tend to forget that the entire world isn't on Facebook:) And moreso- are not friends with me on said Facebook. So- I promised Hillary I would put some up on the blog:) Her entire wedding will be done being processed soon- but here are some sneak peeks for her family and friends:)

Hillary and I went to the same high school- although not at the same time:) I'm a little older than she is- but I still absolutely knew her and her family (the AWESOMENESS of living in a small town!) Even more random is that she and her new hubby have made their new home in my current hometown- an hour and a half away from our hometown! Crazy, heh:) They actually bought a house across the street from some of my best friends (even better!) To make matters even more 'small world'- I knew the groom's brother and his wife already via a mutual friend:) And if that wasn't enough- I ran into a family friend (the sister of my uncle by marriage) in the bubble line outside:) Crazy, crazy, crazy:)

Now that I'm done explaining how I know them- let's talk about how wonderful they are:) Hillary was the most laid back, yet beautiful bride I could ever dream of:) She was awesome the whole day- cracking jokes, laughing, chilling out- it was amazing:) And Colby, the stunning groom- was just as funny:) Despite the fact that he and his almost-entire bridal party were AGGERS (hummm.... I'm a Farmhouse wife!)- they were SOO fun:) It's always a great feeling when you leave the reception for the night- the bridal party is asking you to stay and have a drink with them:) That means you've really done your job in my opinion:)

I loved so many things about this day! I loved how the groomsmen switched the groom's pants to a shorter pair as a prank, I loved how the bridal party chilled at a local pub after the wedding, and I loved, loved, loved how the brother of the bride and his big sis relived their childhood to some INCREDIBLE Michael Jackson moves:) Thank you Hillary and Colby for letting me be a part of your big day! And we're so planning a night out at Sol Azteca some night soon:))))

Meet gorgeous mommy-to-be E:) I officially met E for the first time during our session- although I've e-mailed her countless times in the past year:) Some of you may not know that I also do a little teaching on the side:) My first job was that of a teacher- and I loved it. I quit to stay home with my kids- but I still get the teaching bug often (especially during this time of year!!) A job opportunity was posed to me a few years ago to teach for the local community college to high school juniors who were preparing to take the ACT college exam. It was the perfect opportunity for me to fill my teaching void without having to take a ton of time away! And I love it:) E is my new boss there at the college:) She's been so wonderful to work for- and I know she is going to be an excellent mommy:)))

I met B and her at the beautiful horticulture gardens at ICC. She is such a beautiful pregnant woman- I can't wait to see how cute their boy or girl will be (it's a surprise!) Congrats on your pregnancy and I hope you keep feeling wonderful this last month or so:)))

Wedding of Jeremy and Ashley: Cedar Falls, Iowa

Jeremy and Ashley tied the knot this past Saturday in Cedar Falls, Iowa. I *think* I have been to Iowa once- but never for something as wonderful and important as this:) I met Ashley online- but I could tell immediately she was just the type of girl who'd be my friend:) She was an absolute sweetheart- and an organizer to boot:) This wedding was absolutely adorable- and soooo put together from every little detail to the next:) I LOVED the 'Love Story' video they did at the reception which featured a 'Wedding Story-esque' interviews video on how they met, their first date, the proposal, etc. It truly made every person at the wedding feel like we knew not only the bride or the groom- but rather, them as a couple!

This traditional couple chose not to see each other before the ceremony:) It made outdoor pictures and avoiding each other turn into an operation that would rival the FBI. The hairdresser at the salon could seriously moonlight as a spy:) The downtown area where they were married was cute.as.pie- and had a gazillion adorable spaces to shoot:) I was in looo-vvv-eee! Pair with that an AWESOME bridal party- and we had a ton of fun:))) The whole 'not seeing each other' thing paid off big time as the beautiful bride entered the theatre and bride and groom saw each other for the first time. Not a dry eye watched as the groom was obviously overcome with happiness, as was his bride. It was so sweet:) The ceremony was beautiful. It remains my favorite part of shooting weddings- the opportunity every Saturday to hear a re-confirmation of my own vows. This particular ceremony was discussing how couples need to save their best for their spouse. How we are so nice to our coworkers, the waiters at the restaurant, even our children- but the minute we see our spouse, we think it's okay to just 'let go'. I thought the message was very truthful and inspiring:) Again, it's why I love the ceremony:)
